The scientist of the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) has claimed that a major earthquake may occur in the Himalayan region soon. He said that the intensity of the earthquake could be considerable which could bring huge devastation in the area. However, he also said that the loss of life and property can be reduced by strengthening the structures.According to the news of ANI, Dr. Purnachandra Rao, Chief Scientist of Hyderabad-based NGRI, says that the earth’s crust is made up of many plates and these plates keep on diverging continuously. The Indian plates have been moving up to five centimeters every year, and because of this, the Himalayan region is under tremendous stress. Due to this, a massive earthquake can occur in the Himalayan region.
Dr. Purnachandra Rao said that earthquake may occur in Himachal Pradesh, western part of Nepal and Uttarakhand. Dr. Rao said that the intensity of this earthquake can be 8 on the Richter scale.
