ED Director: ‘Are the people of a country with a population of 144 crore dependent on an officer, why not make him an advisor’
The Supreme Court has extended the service extension of ED Director Sanjay Mishra till 15 September. However, an appeal was made by the Central Government to extend his tenure till 15 October. The Supreme Court has made it clear in its decision that under any circumstances, the ED director will not continue in his post after 15 September. During the hearing of this decision on Thursday, many important arguments came to the fore. It has been said from the center that a small country, along with which the neighboring country Pakistan is also there, they are plotting against India. There is a conspiracy of Pakistan and a small country to include India in the gray list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

A bench of Justice BR Gavai, Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sanjay Karol has heard the matter. As soon as the hearing of the case started, when it was argued by the Center that ED Director Sanjay Mishra should get service extension. On this, Justice Gavai asked, is your entire department incompetent. Can’t work without a person. On this, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta said, we know that the circumstances are a bit unusual. The indication of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) issue had already been received. FATF team will visit India on November 3.
Justice Gavai asked, Terror financing is not money laundering. Tushar Mehta said, no no, terror financing is also a part of this. Pakistan is in the gray list of FATF. Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, it sends a bad message that the people of a country with a population of 1.4 billion are dependent on one officer. Advocate Prashant Bhushan said, an attempt is being made to mislead the Supreme Court. That officer ‘ED Chief’ is so important, so appoint him as an advisor. FATF review is going on till next year, so why do they need them till October. The Center had appealed to extend the tenure of the ED chief till October 15. The neighboring country is conspiring to tarnish India’s image regarding FATF.
On July 26, the Central Government had requested the Supreme Court to modify the decision, which said that ED Director Sanjay Kumar Mishra can remain in office only till July 31. The Central Government had appealed to extend the tenure of ED Director Sanjay Kumar Mishra till October 15. The Center had argued in the petition filed in the Supreme Court that at such a crucial juncture it is necessary to have a person who is well-versed with the intricacies of money laundering investigation, procedures, operations and activities of the investigative agency across the country. On July 11, the Supreme Court declared the third service extension of ED chief Sanjay Kumar Mishra illegal on Tuesday.
