Karnataka: The Central CEN Crime Police Station here has registered an FIR against unknown suspects after the Press Relations Officer of the Karnataka High Court lodged a complaint of threats to the lives of judges besides himself.

K Muralidhar lodged the complaint on 14 July. He received messages on WhatsApp messenger from an international number at around 7 pm on 12 July. His mobile number is the same as the one provided to him officially by the High Court.

Police said that in the message sent in Hindi, Urdu and English, Muralidhar and six judges of the High Court, including Justice Mohd Nawaz, Justice HT Narendra Prasad, Justice Ashok G Nijagannavar (retd), Justice HP Sandesh, Justice K Natarajan and Justice B Veerappa (retd) were threatened with death through a Dubai gang.

The message also contained five suspicious mobile phone numbers and was threatening. The FIR, registered on July 14, states that in a threatening message, a ransom of Rs 50 lakh has been demanded in a bank account in Pakistan.

He said that after registering an FIR under sections 506, 507 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 75 and 66 (F) of the Information Technology Act, the police presented it in the first additional chief metropolitan magistrate court.
