Maharashtra: Days after the Pune Police arrested two suspects for their alleged involvement in terrorism-related activities, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has taken over the investigation. An official gave this information on Sunday.

Police arrested the two suspects, who were wanted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for their alleged involvement in a terror-related case in Rajasthan, from the Kothrud area of Pune city in the early hours of Tuesday. A Pune court had sent Mohd Imran Mohd Yunus Khan (23) and Mohd Yunus Mohd Yakub Saki (24) to police custody until July 25.

A reward of five lakh rupees on both
Both suspects are residents of Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh and are graphic designers. Police has said that there is a reward of five lakh rupees for both of them. A senior police officer at Kothrud police station said, the NIA had registered a case against the two suspected terrorists under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). After his arrest, the Pune Police handed over the case to the ATS on Saturday. An ATS official confirmed that the agency has taken over the investigation of the case from the city police.

The ATS officer said, now we will investigate the matter further. After being caught by the Pune Police on Tuesday, the two were jointly interrogated by the city police and ATS officials. According to the police, a police patrol caught three suspects while they were stealing a motorcycle in the Kothrud area in the early hours of Tuesday. While his checking was going on, only one of the three suspects managed to escape.

Police sources said the two arrested suspects had fled Ratlam after learning that their names had cropped up in the investigation of a terror case in which some suspected members of the Al-Sufa outfit were apprehended by the Rajasthan Police from the Madhya Pradesh city. They reached Mumbai there, stayed in the Bhindi Bazar area for two to three days, and then went to the Kondhwa area of Pune. Sources said that both had also secured jobs with the help of a local resident.

Police sources said that he befriended a third person, a resident of Jharkhand, who managed to escape being caught by the police. Sources claimed that the three accused were allegedly planning to carry out a bomb blast in Jaipur.
