Rajnath Singh spoke to senior leaders of the opposition on the phone, appealed to end procrastination in Parliament
Monsoon Session: Union Minister Rajnath Singh had a telephonic conversation with senior leaders of the opposition in connection with the disruption of the proceedings of Parliament regarding their demands related to the situation in Manipur and urged them to ensure the smooth functioning of the Parliament. BJP sources said Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and Trinamool Congress leader Sudip Bandopadhyay are among the leaders whom the government has approached to end the impasse in Parliament.
He said that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi and Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal are contacting the opposition leaders for smooth functioning of Parliament. Amid protests by the opposition over their demands, Deputy Leader of the House in Lok Sabha Rajnath Singh said on Monday that the government is ready for discussion in Parliament.
He said, ‘We are ready for discussion in the parliament. The incident in Manipur is certainly a very serious matter and realizing the gravity of the situation, the Prime Minister himself has said that what happened in the state (the viral video on Wednesday purportedly shows two women being paraded naked) has brought shame to the entire country. ,
The Defense Minister had also spoken in the House last week about the Government’s willingness to discuss the situation in Manipur. The opposition parties are demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement in Parliament on the situation in Manipur and after that a detailed discussion postponing all other listed works. Several opposition MPs gave adjournment notice on Monday to discuss the Manipur issue.
Dhankhar also held a meeting with the leaders of several parties in the House.
Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar called a meeting of leaders of all parties in the House on Monday as Rajya Sabha proceedings were disrupted for the third consecutive day due to opposition’s uproar over the Manipur violence issue. He appealed for their cooperation for the smooth functioning. In this meeting Jairam Ramesh of Congress, K.K. Keshav Rao, Sasmit Patra of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Raghav Chadha of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Leader of the House Piyush Goyal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi were present.
The proceedings of the Parliament were constantly interrupted.
Since the commencement of the Monsoon session of the Parliament on July 20, the proceedings of the Parliament are continuously being disrupted due to the demands of the opposition. On Monday, the opposition leaders raised slogans and showed placards in the Lok Sabha regarding their demands. He demanded to raise his demands in Rajya Sabha also. The government has a heavy legislative agenda for the Monsoon Session of Parliament which ends on 11 August.
