Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the deadlock in Parliament on the Manipur issue. It has been said in the letter that we are urging the Prime Minister to come and speak in Parliament, but it seems that this will hurt his reputation. We are committed to the people of this country and we will pay all costs for it…Despite being in power for a long time, we know that the records of the conduct of both the ruling party and the opposition are written in the pages of history.

'The country is seeing the difference between your words and actions': Kharge's letter to Shah regarding the deadlock in Parliament, said- we will pay all costs

The letter further states that you will note that on the situation in Manipur after May 3, constituents of ‘India’ have been continuously demanding that the Prime Minister first give his statements on the floor of the House, after which both the Houses There should be detailed debate and discussion on this topic. The kind of serious situation prevailing in Manipur for the last 84 days and the kind of incidents which are unfolding one by one, it is expected of all of us political parties that we should come here immediately to restore peace and give a message to the public. For this, at least this much will be done in the country’s highest house. This is what we are collectively demanding.

Honorable members were suspended for the entire session by making minor incidents a molehill. This is when the rule in this regard is that the suspension of a member cannot continue for more than one session for the same incident.

Under rule 267, the notice of debate is given by the opposition MPs, but only those sitting in the ruling party block the proceedings of the House. When the Leader of the Opposition stands up to speak after the permission of the Chairman, the Leader of the House himself obstructs without request and permission of the Chairman. Disrespects the seat and the tradition of the house. This is happening continuously in front of the entire house. Members of the opposition parties gather in the house after every adjournment with the hope that the proceedings of the house would probably be run smoothly but till now there has been only disappointment.

‘We will pay any price for this’
It has been said in the letter, we are requesting the Prime Minister to come to the house and give a statement, but it seems that his doing so hurts his honor. We have commitment towards the people of this country and we will pay any cost for it. If the ruling party really wants to run the proceedings of the House, it can be easily done by giving a chance to the opposition to speak. Asan can use his authority for this. Similarly, the behavior of the Leader of the House can be normal and positive rather than pre-determined-reaction driven. This will be helpful in running the house smoothly. During the session, the conduct of the government and the opposition is kept in front of the House everyday. The whole country including the opposition will see how much similarity will remain between the words and actions of the Home Minister.
