Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Saturday alleged that Trinamool Congress workers indulged in violence during the recently concluded panchayat elections in West Bengal on the instructions of Chief Minister and party supremo Mamata Banerjee. Thakur, who was in Kolkata to felicitate the BJP’s winning candidates in the rural polls, also claimed that over 57 people have been killed in clashes during the panchayat polls.

West Bengal: Union Minister Anurag Thakur asked- Will the opposition MPs of Manipur also go to Bengal and Rajasthan?

He claimed that the BJP has doubled the number of seats in rural elections as compared to the previous elections and the result is an indication that Banerjee’s days in power are numbered. He said, ‘I would like to say that more than 57 people have been killed in the recently concluded panchayat elections. People were killed to fulfill the wishes of Mamta Banerjee. The entire law and order situation in West Bengal has broken down. Mamata didi, your party leaders started hooliganism on your instructions (during this panchayat election). ,

The BJP leader alleged that Banerjee has been giving shelter to more criminals for her political gains for the last eight-nine years. He said, compared to the last (rural) elections, this time the BJP has doubled the number of seats. This shows that people have started fighting back. The results show that the days of Mamata Banerjee are slowly coming to an end here.

He said, those who are pretending to go to Manipur today. The atrocities that happened with the women of West Bengal. Whose murders happened. Lost family members. The way violence took place in the panchayat elections in West Bengal. Everyday women are raped in Bengal, gang rape happens. Will Congress leaders and other opposition people come to West Bengal? Will the Bengal Congress leaders and Lok Sabha MPs come to Bengal after Manipur with the leaders of the remaining 19 opposition parties? Will the Congress and the people of the opposition parties go to Rajasthan, will they come to Bengal. Both the states are waiting for these leaders going to Manipur.

State Industries Minister and senior Trinamool Congress leader Shashi Panja questioned the timing of Thakur’s visit to West Bengal when Manipur is burning. He said, “He (Thakur) is the one who said ‘goli maaro desh ke gaddaron ko’ (shoot the traitors). He should be behind bars, but since he is a BJP man, he was let off.

He said, ‘Instead of living in Manipur, he is in West Bengal and speaking on the violence during rural elections. The Prime Minister and other Union ministers are also silent on Manipur. The BJP creates and propagates violence. He had said that the democratically elected government in West Bengal would be overthrown and President’s rule would be imposed. Panja questioned why the prime minister was not keeping his statement on the Manipur violence in Parliament.
