Parliament Session: Amit Shah will present Delhi Service Bill in Rajya Sabha tomorrow, approval has been received from Lok Sabha
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will present the ‘National Capital Territory of Delhi Government Amendment Bill, 2023’ in the Rajya Sabha tomorrow, i.e., on August 7. Earlier on August 3, the National Capital Territory of Delhi Government Amendment Bill was passed by the Lok Sabha, considering the decision of the Lieutenant Governor to be final in the matter of the appointment and transfer of officers in the capital, Delhi. Responding to the four and a half-hour discussion on the bill, the Home Minister raised questions about the attitude of the opposition.
He said that the opposition was not concerned about the interests of the country or Delhi but was concerned about saving the alliance. He had asked why the opposition is not remembering the Manipur violence today? Why is the opposition not demanding that the Prime Minister be called to the House today? Even before this, when nine bills were passed, why did the opposition not participate in the discussion?
Expected to pass in Rajya Sabha as well
The government plans to introduce the bill in the Rajya Sabha on Monday. Parties BJD, TDP, and YSRCP, which have distanced themselves from the campaign of opposition unity, have announced their support for the bill in the Upper House. Apart from this, the BSP has decided to abstain from voting in the Rajya Sabha. With the support of these parties, the way for the passage of the bill in the Upper House has been cleared.
What’s in the bill?
In the bill, there is a provision to create an authority to decide on the appointment and transfer of officers by amending the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi Act. The Chief Minister has also been included in the authority. However, the final authority to take a decision in this matter has been given to the Lieutenant Governor.
