The troubles of SP leader Azam Khan are not taking the name of abatement. The High Court has stayed the case in which he was acquitted by the MP-MLA (session trial) court for giving hate speech. After hearing the appeal filed by the state government, the High Court issued a notice to Azam Khan and summoned the file of the decision of the lower court.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Azam Khan was the candidate of SP-BSP alliance from Rampur parliamentary seat. During the election campaign, he addressed a public meeting in Khatanagariya of Milak Kotwali area. He was accused of giving hate speech. Commented against the people sitting on constitutional posts as well as the officers posted in Rampur.

In this case, Anil Kumar, in-charge of the video observation team, had filed a report. The police had filed a charge sheet in the court in this case. The case was heard in the MP-MLA Court (Magistrate Trial). On October 27, 2022, the court sentenced him to three years imprisonment in this case.

Azam Khan’s legislature had gone after getting the punishment from the court. Azam Khan appealed against this decision in the MP-MLA court (session trial). The Sessions Court acquitted Azam Khan by setting aside the sentence awarded by the Judicial Magistrate’s Court.

The UP government challenged this decision in the High Court. While hearing on this, the High Court has issued a notice to Azam Khan.

Azam Khan has been punished in another case of hate speech
On July 15, the court sentenced SP leader Azam Khan to two years in jail for giving hate speech. Azam Khan is on bail in this case. It is alleged that he had given hate speech during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

The report of this matter was lodged by Anil Kumar Chauhan, in-charge of the video observation team at Shahzadnagar police station. The court of MP-MLA (Magistrate Trial) convicted him in this case and sentenced him to two years imprisonment on July 15, 2023. Azam Khan has not even appealed against this sentence.

Arguments not completed in SC-ST case
In the SC-ST case against SP leader Azam Khan registered at Tanda police station, the witness who prepared the cassette filed the certificate on Thursday. Azam Khan’s advocate cross-examined him, but could not complete. Now the next hearing of this matter will be on August 9.

This case was filed by BSP leader Dheeraj Kumar Sheel in the year 2007 in the case of objectionable remarks against the scheduled society in Tanda police station. Its hearing is going on in the MP-MLA court session trial. Rejecting the petition of Azam Khan, the High Court has ordered to give voice samples in this case.

On Thursday, the witness who made the cassette of his speech filed the certificate. Azam Khan’s advocate cross-examined him, but the cross-examination could not be completed. The matter will be heard on August 9.
