India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval has arrived in Jeddah on Saturday to attend a summit of National Security Advisors and other officials hosted by Saudi Arabia to discuss the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh tweeted, “NSA Ajit Doval arrived in Jeddah to attend the meeting of the National Security Advisors on Ukraine. He was received at Jeddah airport by Ambassador Dr. Suhail Khan and Consul General Mohammad Shahid Alam.

A meeting is being held in the coastal city of Jeddah to discuss Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s peace plan amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. The Ministry of External Affairs had confirmed India’s participation in the summit on Friday. India will participate in the event and our participation is in line with our long-standing position that dialogue and diplomacy is the way forward, said Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Responding to a question at a press conference of the Ministry of External Affairs, Bagchi said, yes, India has been invited to the meeting organized by Saudi Arabia on Ukraine in Jeddah. Russia’s official news agency Tass quoted Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying, Russia will monitor this meeting, but it will need to fully understand what goals are being set.

A US newspaper reported the summit for the first time on July 29, citing diplomats involved in the discussions, and said the talks would be held in the city of Jeddah on August 5 and 6, with around 30 countries participating. The newspaper also said that officials in Ukraine and Western countries hope that efforts to end the conflict could culminate in a peace summit later this year, where world leaders can agree on shared principles to resolve the war. According to another foreign media report, Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andrey Yermak, said on Sunday that officials from several countries would attend the Saudi Arabia summit, but did not specify when and in which city the meeting would take place. Yermak wrote on Telegram, Ukrainian peace formula will be discussed, which includes 10 basic points. Yermak said, “We are absolutely convinced that the Ukrainian peace plan should be taken as a basis because the war is taking place on our land.”

Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, India has always believed that this conflict should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also said, India is ready to do whatever it can for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
