Due to the once-changing weather in the mountains, the Meteorological Department has issued warnings of cloudbursts for the next few days. According to the Meteorological Department, due to cyclonic conditions in some hilly areas of the North East, including the upper parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir, cloudbursts and maximum rainfall are expected.

Weather Update: Three days dangerous for mountains, heavy rain and possibility of cloud burst, Meteorological Department issued alert

Due to the deteriorating weather conditions in the mountains, the disaster management agencies of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs are not only on alert but have also come into constant contact with the states. According to the Meteorological Department, this is the first time in the last few years when the incidents of ‘cloudburst’ are not only increasing continuously but warnings are being issued to the states.

According to a senior official of the Meteorological Department, continuous rain and cloudbursts are expected in the upper parts of Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Chamba, and Shimla districts of Himachal Pradesh. The department’s advisory states that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in these areas.

A senior official of the Meteorological Department says that this is the first time in the last few years that an advisory of severe conditions has been issued continuously in these areas of Himachal Pradesh during the last few months. The Director General of the Meteorological Department, Mrityunjay Mahapatra, says that a warning has already been given about the manner in which the conditions have developed in the mountains. Especially in the Himalayan region, such weather conditions are likely to continue for the next three days.

He says that there is a possibility of major incidents like cloudbursts in some places in the next three days. Mahapatra says that an alert has been issued to all the hill states regarding this. At present, this warning has been issued for the next three days. After that, with the activation of the monsoon, the Meteorological Department will issue the next estimate. The Director General of the Meteorological Department says that the manner in which the sudden onset of the monsoon is wreaking havoc on the mountains was already predicted. It is being speculated that such incidents may happen in August as well. At present, the Meteorological Department and the concerned states are in constant contact.

Apart from the hilly areas of North India, the Union Home Ministry is also keeping an eye on the continuous rains in the areas of the North East. Regarding the floods in Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma talked to Home Minister Amit Shah and discussed the situation in the state. According to officials associated with the Union Home Ministry, the Home Minister has given instructions to keep an eye on the situation in the state and take all necessary measures.

Similarly, the Union Home Ministry has formed a team to monitor the incessant rains in the hill states and to contact the state for immediate help and prevention. On the lines of Assam, in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh, too, the Union Home Ministry team is continuously taking updates. Officials associated with the Union Home Ministry say that they are being deployed in states where the help of the NDRF or other agencies is needed.

Meteorologists and environmentalists believe that the manner in which cloudbursts have occurred on the mountains for the past few days is not a normal phenomenon. Chetna Vaishnavi of the Internet Center for Environment and Climate Change, an environmentalist and a close watcher of the weather, says that frequent cloudbursts on the mountains cannot be considered an absolutely normal phenomenon. She says that if you look at the rainfall in the last few years, you will find that the entire monsoon has rained in just a few days.

He says that the old trend of rain is slowly changing. They argue that due to climate change, sudden changes are being seen in this type of weather. Chetna says that whether it is the sudden flood in Kerala or the flood in Kedarnath, The clouds that have been wreaking havoc in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir for the past few days are indicating that everything is not normal. Environmentalist Dr. JP Taneja says that this change in rain should be taken as a warning.

this is called cloudburst
Meteorologist Surender Desai says that cloudburst does not mean at all that a cloud formed in the sky bursts suddenly like a balloon and pours all the water in one place. Surendra Desai says that a cloudburst happens when clouds with a lot of moisture stop at one place at the same time. Since there is so much moisture in the clouds, the weight of the drops starts increasing due to the stagnation of the clouds. In such conditions, the density of clouds also increases. In these conditions, torrential rain starts, which is called a or cloudburst. Mass scientist Surendra Desai says that these incidents happen mostly on the mountains because the clouds get trapped in the middle of their height, and because of this process, the clouds burst. He says that during a cloudburst, water rains at a speed of 100 millimeters per hour.
