The rising price of tomatoes has spoiled the taste. Due to the high price, people are reducing purchases. Tomatoes were sold at different prices in many districts of Uttar Pradesh. In Lucknow, people are gathering to buy cheap tomatoes made available by the government. There was huge crowd in these mobile vans on Friday. There was so much pushing and shoving. Small battles also took place. When people came out with tomatoes, their happiness was being created on seeing them. In the capital Lucknow, tomatoes were sold at Rs 70 per kg in many places.
A huge competition was seen in buying government tomatoes from a mobile van near the petrol pump located at Polytechnic Crossroads. The competition among people to buy tomatoes available at a cheap rate was such that they reached the place an hour before the van arrived. At the same time, due to the late arrival of the van by one hour, resentment was also seen among the common people. Most of the people were seen making noise for taking tomatoes more than 2 kg, while there was a fight among the people for distributing tomatoes to one woman over four men. Cheap tomatoes are being sold in Lucknow from 16th July. This scheme is being run by NCCF on behalf of the Government of India. The price of tomato is fixed at Rs 70. A man can take only two kilos.
Tomatoes sold for Rs 100 a kg in Moradabad
Mandi administration is trying for three days to control the price of tomato in Moradabad. On Friday also, 60 kg tomatoes were sold in just 30 minutes at the stall set up by the Mandi Committee administration to sell tomatoes at Rs 100 per kg.
To buy cheap tomatoes, people queued up and bought tomatoes. There was a slight decrease in the price of tomato in the wholesale market. There was also an increase in the arrival of tomatoes in the market committee. Around 200 crates of tomatoes came here in the wholesale market. While there is a demand of 6000 crates in the district and 500 crates of tomatoes only in Moradabad city. In the wholesale market, medium grade tomatoes were sold from Rs.150 to Rs.170 and high quality tomatoes from Rs.180 to Rs.200 per kg.
Tomatoes sold for Rs 70 a kg in Varanasi
In Varanasi, tomatoes have been sold at Rs 70 per kg by the government at many places including the Amar Ujala office.
