Aditya Chopra has reacted for the first time on the flop career of his brother Uday Chopra. He kept his impeccable opinion on the issue of nepotism. Aditya said in The Romantics – People adopted me as a filmmaker, on the other hand we could not make Udit a star. Udit is a great actor, but the audience has not accepted him.
There has been a debate on nepotism in the film industry for many years. Every celebrity has its own different perspective about it. In Netflix’s documentary The Romantics, filmmaker (Yash Raj Banner Head) Aditya Chopra gave the example of brother Uday’s flop career while giving his opinion on nepotism. He told how despite being a big filmmaker, he could not make his brother a star.
Talking about nepotism, Aditya Chopra said, “People tend to ignore one thing that not every person who comes from a privileged background is successful.” He further said, “I am going to say this just by the example of my family without naming others. I can clarify. ‘My brother is an actor, but he is not a very successful actor. He is the son of one of the biggest filmmakers and brother of a big filmmaker.
Aditya said, ‘Yash Raj Films, which launched so many new people. We could not make Uday Chopra a star. Why can’t we do this for ourselves?’ Answering his own question, Aditya said, ‘The fact is that only the audience can decide whether we like this hero and want to see him. No one else. However, if you are born in a film family, auditioning or getting a break can be easier. But, it only works till then. Beyond this the audience decides.
Talking about Uday Chopra, he started his career as an assistant director. His first film was Lamhein. After this, Uday worked as an assistant director in movies like Darr, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai. Uday Chopra made his debut in the 2000 film Mohabbatein. After this he appeared in movies like Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai, Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Dhoom.Uday could never become a lead hero. His work as a supporting hero in some movies was liked. Uday has also produced many movies. But he gradually disappeared from the acting field. He was last seen in Dhoom 3.
At the same time, Uday also talks openly about his failure and says that there can be many reasons. One, my appearance has not been like a conventional hero. I was not like him in body or look. Although acting has been my descent. I used to think that the audience was not ready to accept me the way I wanted to present myself.And I don’t mind it either. On returning to acting again, Uday says, I have not thought about it, nor do I deny it. If there is a good chance, I will definitely think once.
