The Delhi High Court on Monday issued notice in a plea raising issue of poor living conditions at the Bhalaswa Resettlement Colony situated in North West part of Delhi near the Bhalaswa landfill.
A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad issued notice and listed the matter for hearing on April 18, 2023.
The plea filed by one Pushpa stated that the residents are forced to live with contaminated water and poor living conditions. Due to these conditions, residents are facing serious skin ailments and trauma, the plea added.
The plea submitted that the resettlement in Bhalaswa was done in the year 2000 to 2002 from eleven places in Delhi— Gautampuri Yamuna Pusta, East of Kailash Gadhi, Jahangirpuri, Gopalpur, Seelampur, Dakshinpuri, Preet Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Rohini, I.S.B.T., Nizammuddin Barapula.
“The purpose of resettlement is to ensure a better and systematic way of living for the resettled people. The resettlement by the Government is done under a planned manner in any area where the very foundation is to provide essential and basic amenities to the resettled people,” the plea added.
However, the plea alleged that the residents of Bhalaswa Resettlement Colony have been struggling to attain basic amenities like clean portable water, drainage and sanitation, and education even after more than 20 years of resettlement.
The plea stated that the people of Bhalaswa Resettlement are living in inhumane conditions due to the negligence of the legal duty of the respondent authorities. The people of the Bhalaswa resettlement colony along with the petitioner have been running from pillar to post to acquire the basic essential amenities, however, no remedy has been rendered to them, it added.
