In Noida, a case of assaulting an elderly man by asking his religion has come to the fore. The Crime Branch of Gautam Buddha Nagar Police Commissionerate will investigate the matter. A case has been registered in this regard after receiving notice from the Supreme Court.
The police are facing flak for not registering a case in connection with the incident that took place about one-and-a-half years back and now the Noida Police has been taken out of its investigation and the Crime Branch of the Police Commissionerate has been entrusted with the investigation. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Harish Chander said that Kazim Ahmed, a resident of Zakir Nagar, Delhi, has lodged a report that he was going from Delhi to Aligarh on July 4, 2021 to attend his niece’s wedding. He came from Delhi to Noida’s Sector-37 bus stand. He was waiting for the vehicle when he found some people in the car who asked him to drop him at Aligarh. He sat in the car. He alleges that the people in the car started fighting with him after asking his religion and name. It is alleged that the assailants humiliated him by stripping him naked and shaving his beard. The Deputy Commissioner of Police said that on January 15, 2023, the police registered the report of the incident. He said that a departmental inquiry is being conducted into the matter. If any policeman is found guilty, action will be taken against him as well. Crime branch officials met the victim’s family and recorded their statements. The case has been registered after the Supreme Court took a strong stand in the Kazim Ahmed case and summoned the Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP). On the other hand, Gani Mustafa, the brother of the victim Kazim, told that they complained about the incident with his brother from the outpost level to the police station and senior police officers, but no one listened to them. Then they approached the Supreme Court through a lawyer.
