Amidst the ongoing economic slowdown in Pakistan, high-level drama is being witnessed at Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s residence in Lahore. Actually, his bail plea has been rejected, after which the police have reached his residence to arrest him. At the same time, hundreds of his supporters and party workers have also reached his residence, who are protesting against the police.
This whole matter is related to the Toshakhana controversy. In fact, Toshakhana is a department of the Pakistan cabinet, where valuable gifts given by governments, heads of state and foreign guests of other countries are kept. Under the rules, gifts received from heads of other countries or dignitaries are required to be kept in the Toshakhana.
Imran Khan is accused of buying cheaply and selling the gifts deposited in Toshakhana at a higher price. Regarding this, the Election Commission of Pakistan has declared him disqualified for 5 years. His parliament membership has also been cancelled. Imran supporters protested violently outside the Election Commission (EC) office against this decision, in which some people were also injured. After this incident, a warrant was issued against Khan under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
On August 20, during a rally in Islamabad, Imran openly threatened a woman judge and police officers. Meanwhile, the legal team of Imran’s party PTI has filed a bail application in the Islamabad High Court even before the arrest of Khan.
In this case, Imran was to appear on February 15, but he did not reach the court. After this, Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Raja Jawad Abbas said that Imran Khan had been given enough time. Law cannot be different for any powerful person. Ultimately, the court refused to extend the bail. In this case itself, the police has come to arrest him.
